GREY GOOSE CREATES EXTRAORDINARY ‘TASTE OF SPACE’ COCKTAILS TO CELEBRATE GREY GOOSE AND VIRGIN GALACTIC PARTNERSHIP

GREY GOOSE®, the world’s leading super premium vodka, has created two new cocktail serves which explore the taste of space on the senses. The GREY GOOSE Taste of Space Cocktails celebrate the pioneering partnership between GREY GOOSE and Richard Branson’s commercial spaceline Virgin Galactic® which has been formed from a shared ideology that extraordinary achievement comes from acting on your beliefs.

The GREY GOOSE Galactic Martini Cocktail and GREY GOOSE Beyond the Clouds Cocktail have been specially created to explore the intriguing notion of the ‘taste of space’. While no one knows for sure, astronomers have speculated that space might taste like raspberries, having discovered in 2009 that Ethyl Formate, the compound widely reported as having the aroma of fruits such as raspberries, is also present in space.

The GREY GOOSE Taste of Space Cocktails have been crafted to celebrate the astrobiologists’ findings. And in response to the commonly reported fact that the astronauts’ sense of taste and smell are dulled in space by weightlessness, GREY GOOSE has incorporated spicy fresh black peppercorns, as well as raspberries, to heighten the taste profile of the cocktails.“The fresh black pepper pairs perfectly with the slightly sweet and a touch of anise taste profile of GREY GOOSE,” explains Joe McCanta, GREY GOOSE Global Ambassador.

The GREY GOOSE Galactic Martini Cocktail and GREY GOOSE Beyond the Clouds Cocktail will be available to experience at leading partner bars and nightclubs across the world.

GREY GOOSE Galactic Martini Cocktail

Made with GREY GOOSE and a touch of Alsatian framboise eau de vie, the GREY GOOSE Galactic Martini Cocktail features a distinctive ritual, where the bartender dramatically ‘throws’ it four times and then garnishes it with three raspberries dusted with black pepper to give it the taste of space.Throwing is a classic technique dating to the late 1700s and mid-1800s used to aerate a cocktail. It involves mixing the drink by passing it from one mixing glass to the other from as high as possible, creating a mesmerizing arc of liquid. This ritual is done deliberately exactly four times to represent the climb from 50,000 - 400,000 feet that the Virgin Galactic ship makes in exactly 90seconds at four times the speed of sound.

GREY GOOSE Beyond The Clouds Cocktail

The GREY GOOSE Beyond the Clouds Cocktail is specially designed by expert mixologist and Global GREY GOOSE Brand Ambassador Joe McCanta to be served in top partner bars and select nightclubs. The ritual of the serve is based on the notion of astronauts flying beyond the clouds. Served in rocks glass featuring an image of Earth from space affixed to the base and containing a single ice orb, the cocktail is covered with Elthyl Formate and dry ice. This creates a ‘cloud’ as the dry ice sublimates which is then parted as 50mls of GREY GOOSE vodka is poured, topped with raspberry juice and freshly cracked black pepper. GREY GOOSE has demonstrated once again what can be achieved when flying beyond the norm and has pushed the boundaries of molecular mixology by using the food grade Ethyl Formate compound within the cocktail itself, rather than deconstructing the molecules.

GREY GOOSE Taste of Space Cocktail Recipes

The GREY GOOSE Galactic Martini Cocktail is thrown four times for a dramatic, Virgin Galactic inspired ritual.

Ingredients
50 ml GREY GOOSE vodka
10 ml Noilly Prat dry vermouth
5 ml Alsatian framboise eau de vie (40% ABV)
1 lemon twist
3 raspberries on a GREY GOOSE pick

Method

Chill glass. Add GREY GOOSE vodka, vermouth and raspberry eau de vie. Throw 4 times. Strain and zest and discard the lemon. Garnish with raspberries, slightly sprinkled with cracked pepper.

The GREY GOOSE Beyond the Clouds Cocktail is specially designed to be created by expert mixologists and served in leading partner bars and nightclubs.

Ingredients
60 ml GREY GOOSE vodka – chilled
125 ml Raspberry Juice
Pinch of cracked black pepper
50 ml of water with 3-4 drops of food grade Ethyl Formate
1 Ice Ball

Method
Add Ice ball to glass. If using a cloud pourer fill the base with water and food grade Ethyl Formate. Fill capsule with dry ice. Pour food grade Ethyl Formate Cloud into glass and let hover. Ritually, pour the chilled GREY GOOSE through the cloud to part it. Top with Raspberry Juice and freshly cracked black pepper (from a peppermill)

GREY GOOSE will toast the new era of space with these exceptional celebratory cocktails.

GREY GOOSE® is the Official Spirit Partner of Virgin Galactic®.

Ellen Burstyn On The Unknown Scorsese In The 70’s & The Secretive “Interstellar” Film (and taking LSD!)

Ellen Burstyn chats with Larry King on his Emmy nominated series  “Larry King Now” about finding an unknown director Martin Scorsese for her film “Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore” and her upcoming directorial debut. Plus, Larry grabbed what little information he could about Ellen's next project “Interstellar” featuring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and more!

Multi award winning actress Ellen Burstyn talked about hiring an unknown Martin Scorsese in the 1970’s and commented on what makes 'Marty' so special, “He has incredible energy on the set. There's like this very creative energy and there's an aliveness on his set that translates to film."

The Oscar winner told Larry the little she could about her upcoming film “Interstellar,” "We're all sworn to secrecy. We can't talk about it. [...] It's big and I have a small part." Ellen also shared what Matthew McConaughey told her about the film when she saw him at the Emmy's.

The veteran actress also talked to Larry about her upcoming directorial debut in “Bathing Flo” and how Louis C.K. told her he'd be a part of the film. Burstyn concluded her interview by answering some social media questions from some of her biggest fans including the role she wish she could've played and if she plans on returning to Broadway.

"I went looking for a director and I found an unknown director named Marty Scorsese and hired him and that turned out to be a very good decision." — on enlisting Martin Scorsese to direct "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"

"It's a mystery and a little scary and I play her (Susan Sarandon's) mother.  Donald Sutherland is in it.  It's a very unusual film." — on her current film “The Calling”

"I've made an awful lot of films. I've worked with the best directors in the business and I think I know how to do it." — on directing her first film at 81 years old

"I was a high school dropout. I never went to class. I always failed class. I failed everything. [...] But I was captain of the cheerleaders and president of the drama club and president of the student council. I did everything but go to school and when I was on stage it just felt, ‘Yeah, I can do this.' "

"I like the directors that are young and haven't been heard yet."

"I love working on stage. There's nothing like it."

"When I did “Alice [Doesn't Live Here Anymore],” I was the only woman who was directing her own projects, but there have been more since then and I feel very happy that it's changed."

"I like films that hook me in, that make me wonder what's going to happen next."

"It's a psychological drama. If you look at it again, it really holds up." — on "The Exorcist" still being relevant

"I don't feel any different than I felt at 40 except I have new knees." — on feeling like a young 81 year old

"I kept coming up against these events where I'd go, 'Ooh, I can't write that,' and I did that so many times and I finally said, 'Are you going to tell your story or are you putting out a publicity blurb?' So I decided, 'Well, if i'm going to tell the story, I might as well tell it.' [...] After it came out, I heard from so many women it helped." — on writing her memoir, ‘Lessons in Becoming Myself’

"I had a tough mother who believed in punishing physically, so that happened a lot, and a stepfather who was also very punishing. I was always in the wrong and I was always getting punished for it. [...] I was an artist and I was in non-artist surroundings and they didn't get me and I didn't get them."

"I left home on my 18th birthday. As soon as I could get out, I got out. [...] I got on a Greyhound bus and went to Texas, and from there, to New York."

"I did LSD twice. It was no good for me. I just cried the whole time."

"I probably should've taken 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,' and I didn't ." — on her biggest career regret

With the Nokia Lumia 1020, “you’ve got it”. That’s the verdict of David Bailey and Bruce Weber, two of the world’s best-known photographers, who used the 41 megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 in a unique collaboration to capture the spirit and soul of Harlem, New York.

Nokia has today released nearly 60 photos from the pair’s photoshoot in Harlem, which demonstrates that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the perfect camera to help people capture the moment in unrivalled detail, and with ease.

The stunning photos are available to view at The Nokia Photography Room and are currently being exhibited at the Nicholls & Clarke Building in Shoreditch, East London.  A video featuring Mr Weber and Mr Bailey on the shoot will be shown at the exhibition.

Mr Bailey said: “The Nokia camera [Nokia Lumia 1020] helps you capture the moment, which is the most important thing.”

Mr Weber said: “I don’t do digital and this is the first time I have really gone out in the world and done like a digital sitting. I was impressed with the resolution and the beauty of the colour.”

The London exhibition, entitled “Weber X Bailey by Nokia Lumia 1020” will run until 21 September and is free to members of the public.

With 41 megapixels, ZEISS optics, and optimised image stabilization - the Nokia Lumia 1020 establishes a new benchmark in smartphone imaging. It simplifies the controls previously reserved for professionals, and reinvents zoom to help people capture, edit and share better photos with ease.

“The photos from Weber and Bailey’s shoot are dazzling”, said Mark Newton, VP, Nokia Brand and Marketing Creative, Nokia. “They are a reflection of Weber and Bailey’s mastery of the art of photography, but also represent a hugely symbolic moment in the development of smartphone imaging. The Nokia Lumia 1020 empowers people to take better pictures.”

Weber and Bailey spent 24 hours in Harlem in July on a quest to capture the heart and soul of New York’s vibrant community.  It was the first time the life-long friends had worked together on a project.

‘Catfish’ Star Nev Schulman Schools Larry King on How to Avoid Getting Catfished

Are we a society of screen addicts? “Catfish” star and internet darling Nev Schulman sat down with Larry King on the Emmy nominated series “Larry King Now” to shed light on why our digital lives could be making us less empathetic and the trouble with forging relationships online. Plus, Nev’s case for connecting in real life.

MTV’s “Catfish” star Nev Schulman explained to Larry King that the time we spend online is affecting our ability to meaningfully connect with each other “When we curate our emotions based on what’s easy for us, we lose touch with the ability to connect with people who are going through something difficult” he said.

The ‘In Real Life’ author talked about his thought process before sharing something online, “Whenever I’m in a situation that I’m excited about, I say to myself ‘Why do you need to take a picture of this? Why do you need to share this with other people, instead of just being here, being present, and really taking it in for yourself?’” Nev also shared some telltale signs with Larry King on whether or not someone may be digitally lying to you, and the crossover between catfish and scam artists.

The “Catfish” host finished his interview with Larry King by answering social media questions from some of his biggest fans, including the worst catfish he’s encountered and whether he’d recommend digital dating to his one-day children.

"I immediately understood and sympathized with her and saw that her situation left her with very few choices." — on sympathizing with the woman who deceived him in "Catfish" (the movie)

"There's an interesting overlap between catfish and scam artists.”

“Even if they person that you’ve been talking to via social media is exactly who they’ve presented themselves to be, you’re never going to get what you expect because even when you're face-to-face, relationships change. People change. Some are more honest than others, and you can never account for chemistry or attraction or awkwardness."

“It’s not real, but you don’t have to be as vulnerable. You don't potentially get embarrassed or turned away. There's not as much of a risk. You can connect with lots of people, but if they don't like you or you don't like them, it's very easy to disengage." — on why we choose to communicate digitally versus in real life

“I think the fact that we’re all now so much more invested in our digital selves gives us permission to embellish here and there.” — on why we lie online

“I think the less we look each other in the eyes and the less time we spend listening to each other rather than just putting out content for everyone to consume, the less we understand each other, and as a result, the less likely we are to actually feel and be felt.” — on why our digital lives are making us less empathetic

"It's easy to be mean or critical of someone else, especially when there's no way for them to do it back." “What I’m hopeful is that we can redirect some of the energy that gets spent online to something good.” “We have a huge picture window now which is our screen life, whether it’s your phone or your computer or television, movies, and we’re constantly distracting ourselves from ourselves with other people’s lives and information and ideas.” "It's just people who are struggling, who are unhappy or lonely or insecure." — on what catfish have in common "It has turned our world into a single community." — on the best thing about the Internet

Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson and Jackie Robinson West Featured on JET Cover

JET Magazine Celebrates the Presence of the Black Family on Network Television and Salutes the 40 Under 40

CHICAGO, (August 6, 2014) — In the September issue, JET presents two covers – one with Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross as they prepare to launch their new program, black-ish, and their second annual “40 Under 40 list,” featuring none other than the Jackie Robinson West Little League national champions as the iconic image.

Shows such as The Cosby Show, Family Matters, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and My Wife and Kids were programs that depicted the African-American family on mainstream television in a positive light.  However, the presence of the Black family on network television as been largely missing, other than on reality shows, since these programs went off air.  This fall, the show black-ish is set to premiere on ABC on September 24, quenching the desire of those looking for diversity in their television programming.

“Around the time of President Obama’s presidency, it seems like there was a switch toward the reality representation of Black families, “said the show creator Kenya Harris.
“Now you have Love & Hip Hop or Hollywood Exes that show Black families as a lot more disrupted.”

Unlike the Cosby Show, black-ish explores how a well-to-do African-American family in a predominately White neighborhood deals with maintaining their Black cultural identity while also "assimilating" into the culture of their neighbors.

“I think it’s a lovely thing that we’re being compared to something as great as The Cosby Show was at its time, but we’re not trying to emulate them,” said Anderson about the show.

Anderson will play the family’s father, Andre Johnson, and Ross will play his wife, Rainbow Johnson.

Also in the issue, JET reveals the publication’s “40 Under 40" list, which includes the most influential movers and shakers in the African-American community under the age of 40.  The list includes individuals who have household names to those who may actually live next door.  The young men from the Jackie Robinson West Little League baseball team, who won over the hearts of many Americans, are included in the list for being the first all-Black team to win the national championship in the Little League World Series.

On a more somber note, JET also includes a special Census, memorializing unarmed African Americans who have died at the hands of police, including Michael Brown, whose death has galvanized the Ferguson, MO. Community and shined a spotlight on the often strained relationship between law enforcement and citizens of color.

The JET September issue is now available in Apple, Google Play and Amazon stores for download.  The magazine has extended the free trial period until September 30.  Tips on how to download the latest edition of the JET digital magazine can be found at jetmag.com/godigital.  Content on the app is refreshed every Friday on the “Weekly Tap In” and “Beauty of the Week” pages.
